The Founding Story
Washington Accounting & Financial Services was founded in 2014 by Maggie Chen and Robert Kimura — a tax strategist and a financial planner who shared a conviction that Pacific Northwest business owners deserved better.
At their respective large national firms, Maggie and Robert noticed a recurring problem: successful local founders and families were being assigned to junior staff because they weren't Fortune 500 accounts. Worse, these clients were receiving disjointed advice because their tax CPA, their wealth manager, and their corporate auditor never spoke to one another.
They built WAFS to be the antidote. The firm was designed around three non-negotiable principles: senior access always, integrated services under one roof, and year-round engagement (not just tax season). What began as a two-partner operation has grown selectively, adding partners David Okafor (CFO Services) and Priya Nair (Audit) to complete the firm's comprehensive capability set.
