Alpine Vertical — Building the Brand, Site, and Go-to-Market Foundation for a Next-Generation VTOL Aircraft
How Ascend Consulting took Alpine Vertical from an early concept into a live, reservation-ready website and a five-audience customer acquisition strategy, while holding every page to the transparency standard a pre-production aircraft company has to meet.
Organization
Alpine Vertical is developing Raven, a hybrid VTOL aircraft built around a simple premise: vertical freedom without giving up horizontal performance — 'The Adventure Begins Where the Runway Ends.' Raven pairs a proven fixed-wing airframe with a hybrid-electric lift system, targeting a 330 nautical mile range and a 140 mph cruise, carrying a pilot and one passenger, with no runway required to take off or land. The site now serves five audiences under one roof: recreational and backcountry pilots, personal owner-pilots, wildfire evacuation operators, EMS providers, and flight training programs.
The Challenge
Alpine Vertical needed to generate real reservations and market confidence for an aircraft that hasn't flown yet, which meant the site couldn't lean on the shortcuts most product launches use.
- No finished visual identity or tone-of-voice standard to build a site against
- Nothing live yet for reservations, and no tested path from visitor to reserved customer
- Five audiences with almost no overlap in the media and communities that reach them — a backcountry pilot and a wildfire agency don't read the same publications
- No standardized language for describing development stage, target specs, and concept renders, which is exactly where an aircraft company's legal exposure lives
- No acquisition strategy connecting any of it to actual traffic
The Approach
Ascend ran three workstreams in parallel against a 30-day plan, with branding gating everything else since Phase 1 build couldn't finalize pages against assets that were still changing.
- 1Brand Identity Lockdown: Finalized the visual system — logo, color, typography — alongside a tone-of-voice guide and a set of language conventions for how renders, target specs, and development stage get described sitewide, closed in week one so nothing downstream got built against assets that would later change.
- 2Full Site Build: Built out Home, the Raven aircraft page, a dedicated page for each of four use cases (Recreation & Personal, Evacuation, EMS, Training), Development & Safety, and About, plus Careers and Contact — every page carrying the same standing disclaimer, 'Raven is in active development. Specifications are engineering targets subject to revision,' with a link through to a public development roadmap.
- 3Tested Reservation Flow: Built and tested the 'Founders List' reservation path end to end — fully refundable deposit, no obligation to purchase — with deposit and refund terms reviewed and signed off before anything went live, and an FAQ addressing exactly what the deposit does and doesn't commit a reservation holder to.
- 4Customer Acquisition Audit: Audited 15 aviation and community publications and 30 Facebook groups and forums across Raven's five target audiences, then narrowed that list to a working slate of one publication and two communities per audience.
- 5Dedicated Use-Case Pages: Built each use case its own page with its own value proposition tied to real specs — 330 NM target range for recreation's cross-country pitch, 140 MPH target cruise for evacuation's response-time pitch, lower cost-per-flight-hour than rotorcraft for EMS — so paid and earned traffic lands somewhere built to convert that specific audience.
- 6Content and Legal Review: Checked every reservation-carrying page against the transparency standard before publishing — development stage stated plainly, specs labeled as targets everywhere they appear, and a technical data room gated behind a request-access form for serious buyers and partners.
- 7Staged Sign-Off Process: Structured the entire engagement around three checkpoints — content and legal review, design and brand review, and a final pre-launch walkthrough — each requiring Alpine Vertical's written go-ahead before the next stage started.
The Results
Alpine-vertical.com is live with the full site built out — the Raven aircraft page, four use-case pages, Development & Safety, About, Careers, and Contact — and a working, tested Founders List reservation flow. The visual identity and tone-of-voice guide are locked and applied consistently, right down to the 'engineering targets subject to revision' language that appears next to every spec on every page. The acquisition channel slate is narrowed from the original 45-channel audit down to a working set per audience, with the use-case pages built to receive and convert that traffic.
Success on this engagement is being tracked against the same measures Ascend and Alpine Vertical defined at the outset: reservation and waitlist growth, conversion rate by use case, cost per reservation by channel, and traffic and engagement by use case to confirm the channel selections are performing. Because Raven's five target audiences don't share a media diet, the acquisition slate was built audience-by-audience — recreation and personal pilots reached through backcountry and general aviation publications and pilot communities, evacuation operators through wildland fire and rescue aviation channels, EMS professionals through flight medicine and air ambulance networks, and training programs through flight instructor and student pilot publications — each paired with its own dedicated use-case page built to convert that specific audience.
